The Story of Our Name

Everyone has been curious about the name Tangram.

Well, a tangram is a dissection puzzle with seven pieces. You’re given an outline of a shape and you have to figure out where the pieces go. They can’t overlap!

There are thousands of tangram configurations. Some are easier. Others seem impossible.

I’ve always loved puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles are my jam (the more pieces, the better), but let’s not forget Where’s Waldo, word puzzles, and Two Dots (a game I hesitate to mention because it’s that good). Puzzles are the perfect activity — challenging and relaxing at the same time. These days they’re my go-to while listening to podcasts.

One of my first puzzles was a tangram puzzle. A few months ago, it was pretty fun to discover that my mom saved my original set :) The box is a little beat up, but the pieces are good as new and I still have all seven (sadly not true for most of my 2000-piece jigsaw puzzles). I’m missing the booklet with all the shapes, but there are many websites devoted to tangrams so that’s not an issue!

So, why Tangram Learning? Working on your learning strategy — troubleshooting, experimenting, trying to close gaps — is definitely a puzzle. And, like a tangram, sometimes you start with just an outline in mind and you have to figure out where the pieces go.
